Please review the information below in preparation for your course. For CI-certified Personal Trainer Examination information, please review our Personal Trainer (CI-CPT) Certification Candidate Handbook.
CPR Certification (for select courses/examination)
The following require current CPR certification:
CPR certification is not required prior to attending a Personal Training Education option. However, if you wish to sit for the CI-CPT Certification Examination, you must have CPR proof at exam check-in. For more information on CI-CPT requirements, please review our Certified Personal Trainer (CI-CPT) Certification Candidate Handbook.
Accepted forms of adult CPR must include a hands-on training component such as American Heart Association or Red Cross. Online, correspondence, or abbreviated certification courses which do not have a hands-on component are not accepted. The Cooper Institute does not recognize CPR certifications from other countries outside of the United States.
If you are interested in attending The Cooper Institute’s CPR Heartsaver AED certification training course, please click the link for course dates and details.
It is not required that you obtain your CPR certification at The Cooper Institute. You may contact your local American Heart Association, Red Cross, hospital, or fire department and attend a course prior to or after you complete a Cooper Institute education course. However, if you wish to sit for the CI-CPT Certification Examination, you must have CPR proof at exam check in.
Obtaining Manuals Early
The Cooper Institute provides several ways in which to obtain your manuals early so that you may start reviewing the material.
If you have registered for a Personal Training Education option, your course materials will be automatically shipped to you when you complete registration.
For all other courses where the course fees are paid in full during pre-registration, you have the option to add an additional $10 to your tuition payment and note it on your registration that you would like the course manual pre-shipped to you (we cannot ship to P.O. boxes, only street addresses). Your manual will be sent UPS Ground and arrive in 7-10 business days. If you do not wish to pay in full at the time of pre-registration, you may purchase the manuals online at our web site or by calling (800) 635-7050 and pay the manual cost (usually $35) plus shipping. When you complete your tuition payment on the first day of the course, notify us that you have your book and we will deduct the cost of the manual from your course fee. We cannot deduct sales tax or shipping costs. Maximum book credit for Resistance Training Instruction is $20.
Registrants via our web site should receive a confirmation letter by e-mail shortly after completing all registration processes online.
Registrants via mail or telephone should receive a confirmation letter by mail 3-4 weeks prior to the start of the course. You may also request your confirmation letter be sent via e-mail if you provide your e-mail address.
Please call (800) 635-7050 and ask the receptionist for the Program Coordinator's Line to request a confirmation letter reprint.
Always bring a sweater or jacket to ensure comfort. Smoking is prohibited within and around all buildings on the Cooper campus. Please feel free to bring something to drink as needed. We often provide light snacks before class and during breaks.
